The history of the 997 and why this must-have shoe needs a place in your wardrobe
With a sleek profile and a stand out clean design and colourway, the 997 Sport is our
go-to shoe we will be slipping into this season (or possibly the rest of the year)
New Balance have been on fire this year with so many epic releases, its clear to say
they have taken a giant step out of the dark and have majorly upped their game in today’s sneaker world.
The 997 Sport has come along way since first released in the early 90s, it was the first
runner produced by New Balance and it was specifically for female runners (yeah girls!) The 997 has been
known to be highly technical yet supremely versatile. 1994 was the year the 997 sadly retired and was not to
be seen for more than two decades.
Thank goodness in 2014 (only 20 years later) the 997 was reborn and we have the beauty of
what is the 997 that we all see and love today.
Although a lot has changed when it comes to the colour choices and design , there are
a few things that remain the same, the elevated heel pad and the nuanced design with the much loved suede detail.
The current 997 Sport is a fresh feminine upgrade of the popular ‘OG 997’ shoe and a
modern take on today’s fashion.. there is very little this shoe can’t be paired with.
